As the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival wraps up, ICON is thankful for the opportunity to have partnered with TIFF for its 47th year to provide amazing graphics, wall vinyls, and signage - taking the visuals of this year's festival to the next level. The scale of this project was vast and while being extensively prepared, it posed a few installation challenges for our team. One primary challenge that we faced was our adhesive vinyl wrap not adhering to the concrete exterior of Roy Thomson Hall. We overcame this challenge by installing a layer of rough texture vinyl on top of the concrete as our smooth base layer with our removeable vinyl to be applied on top. Although extending the installation process, this created a much more viable and sustainable solution without damaging the exterior of one of Toronto’s iconic landmarks. For the course of 11 days, our installations could be seen in and around Roy Thomson Hall, The Visa Screening Room at The Princess of Wales Theatre, The Royal Alexander Theatre, and of course the TIFF Bell Lightbox. Our most notable contribution that could be seen anywhere along TIFF Festival Street were our custom Step & Repeat backdrops that made all the stars on the red-carpet pop. With our longest wall stretching over 120ft in length, these backdrops provided a classic and polished look to the festival that tied together with the meaning of TIFF and the diverse and innovative perspectives on the art of film. The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the largest publicly attended film festivals and ICON is proud to have showcased our talents as leaders in All Things Visual to so many people. It's safe to say that TIFF 2022 was a great success despite the challenges faced. We can't wait to see what is to come in the years to follow!
